Adolescence & Family Therapy

Individuals, especially adolescents are best understood through their relationships with their families. Adolescence can be a challenging time. Common problems that families bring into therapy include, stressful and traumatic life events such as: divorce and separation, illness or death of a loved one, and transitional stages of family development that can cause pain and upset. Work and school-related problems. Every child deserves a stable emotional environment. Yet, families are complex organisms that can be in flux.

With the many stresses of the world, family systems seek what is familiar and safe in order to survive in ever changing times. Consequently, this in itself can become destructive, because change is perceived as a threat, even if the family system is hurting and in need of change.

When an adolescent or family enters therapy, we begin to better explore and understand the family dynamics, rules, and roles. Treating the family system has been a proven method to gently adjust and bring about change. It also helps each individual identify their personal role and create healthier patterns. Please contact me for more information or to schedule an appointment.
