Navid Messian, LMFT

Working with many people throughout the last 10 + years, it is often a story of each individuals personal journey from some sort of limitation to finding one's own self. Many difficulties that we are experiencing today may be rooted in a past experience that shifted the way we respond and communicate with the world. We develop anxieties and depression that affect the way we interact with the world. In that, we push others away in order to feel safe, and yet we feel more alone.

In my practice, I strive to identify and treat the root cause of a presenting problem and help my clients develop healthier coping tools to interact with the world. By replacing limited defense mechanisms with more healthy and adaptive ones, we can create room for more intimate and meaningful relationships.

THE JOURNEY OF LIFE

Trauma and PTSD

Life is always accompanied with everyday challenges that push us to move forward in our lives and develop ourselves and our relationships. As we move through our lives, the faintest memory, time of year, or scent can send us plummeting back into the past. This can include the death of a loved one, a lost relationship, past trauma, or a let down.

Revisiting these experiences alone can be a painful and confusing. Together we can honor, respect, understand, and process these experiences and facilitate healing and growth.

Anxiety & Panic Attacks

In our busy lives, panic attacks and anxiety have become more prevalent. These responses can happen in seemingly harmless situations, and can be extremely terrifying.

Left untreated, fears of having another panic attack can lead  to phobias, depression, and even substance abuse. In fact, people may avoid certain essential places or situations in fear of another attack. Together we can identify these triggers, their origins, and use cognitive and mindfulness tools to better manage and cope with these symptoms.

Depression

Depression is one of the most common mental health issues. People with depression may experience a lack of interest and pleasure in daily activities, significant weight loss or gain, insomnia or excessive sleeping, lack of energy, inability to concentrate, and recurrent thoughts. There are fortunately several approaches including CBT, interpersonal, and psychodynamic therapy to help better cope with these symptoms. Our work together can give you the opportunity to identify the factors that contribute to your depression and to deal effectively with its psychological, emotional, interpersonal consequences.
